Snakes and Ladders

I always used to go and stay with my nana at weekends and during school holidays. It was a time i looked forward to, spending our Saturdays surrounded by our family as Nana would cook lunch for us.It was usually tinned new potatoes, stewing steak and peas with Nana`s gravy, yum! Or maybe a pan of hash.We would listen to music on the radio or Lisa would bring her record collection so we could sing along. Nana always encouraged me to dance along and i would use Nana`s ewbank as a microphone(driving everyone mad!!)Once i was worn out and everyone else had headaches, we would sit down and watch The A-Team or Surprise Surprise, sometimes Blind Date as well. One by one people would go home, Nana and I would settle down for the night, she would make me a cup of warm milk with sugar in and we would play Snakes and Ladders, the problem was that Nana didn't like to lose and she would find a way to get me back down the board or to move her counter up, when i used to tell her off for cheating she would always said that she didn't cheat and make up some obscure rule of that`s how you play the game!! This would then normally end up with both of us telling each other off and Nana picking up the game and putting it away. We would both then sit in silence for a while before we made up(we are both extremely stubborn) The funny thing is even though we both knew how the game would end we still carried on playing most of the time i stayed. Thinking of these moments now make me smile. This is how i like to remember my Nana, as a happy, content lady who enjoyed spending as much time with her family as she could, even when it ended in tantrums. Nana would always make sure we made up before going to bed as she told me often you should never go to bed angry.
